Judge Johnson is appointed by the Mayor as
approved by the City Council. Her duties include presiding over
Class C Misdemeanor cases. These include traffic, city ordinance
violations and penal code violations where the punishment is by fine
only. Judge Johnson actually wears two hats: Municipal Judge and
Municipal Court Clerk. Judge Johnson holds a certification from the Texas
Municipal Courts Education Center. She will see defendants and hear pleas
Monday thru Friday from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.m. She uses the
morning hours to complete the many hours and piles of required paperwork
generated by the court. Judge Johnson holds both bench and jury trials
as needed to dispose of cases.
Jurors are summoned by the City Clerk to appear on
court dates for Jury Selection. A Municipal Court jury consists of
6 local citizens to judge the facts and presented against their
peers.
