The July 4 fireworks show and festivities are taking shape

The Bosque County Heritage Society and Valley Mills Lions Club are

preparing for the celebration being held Saturday, July 4.

The Heritage Society sponsors the Parade and morning events.

A dunking booth will be set up in the morning and is sponsored by the

Lions Club.

This year, Valley Mills Police Chief Tommy Roach, Mayor John Shampton,

Coach Mike Finnell, VM Police Sgt. David Jimenez and Donna Veteto of

the Valley Mills Progress will be in the dunking booth.

Chief Roach and Mayor Shampton will be having a contest as to which of

them can sell the most chances at being dunked.

The winner gets to put a pie in the loser's face.

"I've lost the past two years. I'd best not lose this year or else . .

." said Roach with mock menace.

Proceeds from the dunking booth will be used for the fireworks show.

Chief Roach, who is also president of the Lions Club, is hoping to

extend events into the afternoon.

Events scheduled are a Pet Show and a Scavenger Hunt, sponsored by

Fallon Jones and BARK.

The Valley Mills Volunteer Fire Department will be making snocones in

the morning.

Other festivites that are in the works are a Mr. and Miss Firecracker

pageant, cloggers, squaredancers and muscial groups.

The VM Police Department will be offering to fingerprint kids.

The Lions Club is working in connection with the Heritage Society to

make this year's celebration bigger and better.

The Lions Club is offering three levels of sponsorship for the

fireworks show. Those are Red for $1000, White for $500 and Blue for

$250.

At present, Sonntag Oil and Parson's Roofing are Red sponsors and

First National Bank of Bosque County, Rountree Appliance, Deeley

Ranch, Andy's Lawn Service and First Choice Power are White sponsors.

The Valley Mills Progress, MP Electric, Jimmy Gumm Construction/LL

Fence Co., Mayor John Shampton, Hillin Sand and Gravel and Saturn of

Waco are Blue sponsors.

Other sponsors are Loftin Dirt Works and Johnny the Locksmith.

The Lions Club is hoping to raise $5,000 for the fireworks and banners

for the show.

Clifton has cancelled its fireworks show this year.

Ice cream donations are also needed. To sponsor or donate ice cream,

call Chief Roach at 932-6300.
